About

A historic town since the Middle Ages, it prospered under the reign of the Counts of Tournon during the Renaissance. The first written record of Tournon dates back to 817, under the name Turnone. The Counts of Tournon chose to build their fortress on a granite rock overlooking the Rhône valley, giving rise to the castle that today forms the heart of the town.

At the foot of the castle, the old town reveals its narrow streets, the collegiate church of Saint-Julien, the Porte de Mauves, the former college that became the Lycée Gabriel Faure and the Marc Seguin footbridge, the first suspension bridge to be built using iron cables.

Tournon-sur-Rhône is also a city of know-how and creation, where art craftsmen (jewelry, leather, couture, textiles...) contribute to the identity and appeal of the destination.

Finally, the sentier des Tours and the belvedere offer remarkable panoramic views over the Rhône valley, inviting visitors to contemplate and discover this destination of character.
